Connecticutie, I know my response is quite delayed, but I felt as though I should defend Jason Mraz on this point. Although your sarcastic comments to the young RKOP members made me laugh at times, I think you may be missing the point of Mraz's request for volunteers. He is trying to inspire community involvement all over the world, because if we can join together to help at a concert, maybe we can join together to help the planet and spread ideas of peace and friendship. That's the reason for his volunteer search- it's not his frugality, but his hope that by asking people to work together he will help their communities. Also, most fans want to help out because they want to set an example, and are hoping to gain a feeling of belonging to a community. They probably hope to catch glimpses of the behind-the-scenes part of the tour, but in all honesty who wouldn't want that? The fans are viewing the volunteer opportunity as a win-win situation, which is exactly what Mraz intended it to be. They will have a cool concert experience, and will leave feeling better about themselves and satisfied that they have done their part to help. Mraz is trying to bring out the volunteer in all of us, thinking that if we discover our love for helping others, we will continue to do so and therefore continue to help our communities and even our planet. Maybe other artists would be trying to save money by asking for volunteers, but Jason Mraz is not that kind of person and has much nobler motives.
